Couple of sketches

Lacking in inspiration for the past few days, forced myself to do a few sketches hoping it would get the inspiration going, but still having got it started yet ...

Quick study

A quick study, 5 x 7, from a photo image found at http://russellgowlett.blogspot.com/ with permission of course. Anyhow, I have these bristle brushes I purchased a while back and decided to try them out. They turned out to be the worse brushes I have ever used so far since I started painting and will be in the trash shortly.

Is this considered a very limited palette?

I was bored but didn't want to really paint so I did a 5 x 7 inch monochromatic oil sketch using raw umber. Maybe later I'll be in the mood to do paint with more than one color. This sketch actually took longer than usual.

Something new

Today, I went and got myself a sample set of the new Golden Open acrylic paint. It's main selling point is that it dries slower than any other brand of acrylic paint without the use of retarders and that the paint piles on the palette will remain workable for a considerable amount of time. Anyhow, I did this quick sketch to try it out, it doesn't quite fit my style of painting but overall, it's not too bad though it probably won't be my first choice of medium to use.

7/20 Oil sketch

oil on illustration board, 5 x 7
This one took around 1.5 to 2 hours, I forgot to note the time I started. I had a difficult time painting in the facial features.
